現今社會因工作和生活節奏快、壓力大,再加上作息時間不規律,使得不少人的髮際線升高,甚至頂上無毛,在今日,禿頭早已不是老年人的專利,很多青壯年也面臨掉髮的煩惱。近期哈佛大學的團隊發表在權威期刊 Nature 上的研究,揭示了長期壓力導致掉髮的背後機制,並提出了逆轉落髮現象的可能方法。 毛囊是皮膚的附屬器官 之一,是生成毛髮的單位,毛囊除了生長毛髮,也可幫助表皮機能,免受外界環境的損傷,在組織更新和外傷修復中發揮重要作用。在毛囊構造最底部的真皮毛乳頭細胞,是發送生髮訊號的重要細胞,會活化毛囊幹細胞,進一步促使毛母細胞分裂,使毛髮開始生長。   壓力跟落髮有什麼關係? 長期以來,持續的慢性壓力、精神焦慮和情緒緊張等因素被認為與掉髮密切相關,但這些壓力因素導致脫髮的生理機制是什麼,一直不為人所知。而哈佛大學的團隊,就對這個問題展開深入研究。研究中,科學家比較了正常小鼠與切除腎上腺的小鼠,觀察牠們在持續慢性壓力下,兩者毛髮的生長速度是否不同。結果顯示,切除腎上腺的小鼠,毛髮生長速度遠超過正常小鼠,也就是說,壓力激素確實會影響小鼠的毛髮生長。另外他們也發現,腎上腺切除的小鼠,毛囊的休止期時間會大幅縮短。 目前科學界普遍認知,小鼠的腎上腺應對壓力所分泌的主要激素是皮質酮 (Corticosterone; CORT)。那究竟是不是皮質酮影響了毛髮的生長呢?為此研究團隊又進行了實驗。他們讓正常情況下(沒有持續慢性壓力)的小鼠,分別飲用一般水和加有皮質酮的水。結果顯示飲用皮質酮的小鼠,毛髮的生長確實受到抑制。 哈佛研究團隊發現,皮質酮會延長毛囊幹細胞在休止期的時間,但這個影響不是直接,而是「間接」。在分析毛乳頭細胞的基因表現模式後,研究團隊最終找到一個關鍵的蛋白質,他們發現皮質酮會抑制毛乳頭細胞產生生長停滯特異性蛋白質 6 (Growth Arrest Specific Protein 6, GAS6) ,而 GAS6 的功能正是促進細胞分裂。因此結論就是皮質酮(壓力)會抑制毛乳頭細胞產生 GAS6,讓毛囊幹細胞無法活化,進而使毛髮無法生長,這就是壓力導致掉髮的主要原因。 雖然這篇文章的發現,還辦法那麼快應用到人體上,但這篇文章找出了壓力導致掉髮的機制,或許未來,我們只需要補充 GAS6 就能抵銷慢性壓力對頭髮的不良影響。但在這天來臨前,先學會調適工作與生活中的壓力,保持良好的生活習慣與適度養護頭髮,或許還是最簡便與實在的方法!
